 HILMA SELF January 5, 1927 ~ April 14, 2013 Memorial services for Mrs. Hilma Inez Self, age 86, of Clayton, were held Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at 3 P.M. at Corinth Baptist Church. Rev. Steve Gunter and Bro. Clyde Hancock officiated with Kent Funeral Home of Clayton directing. Mrs. Self died Sunday, April 14, at her residence after a lengthy illness. Born January 5, 1927 in Texasville Community of Barbour County, Mrs. Self was the daughter of the late Wren and Dorcas Alice Creel Fillingim. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Robert Self in 1992. Mrs. Self was always a homemaker first but also held many other jobs. She worked at Phillips Van Heusen Company in Clayton for several years, she worked as a beautician and also as a cake maker her grandchildren recall with delight. She worked with her sons and husband in the fields farming and would always have lunch on the table when they came in to eat. Mrs. Self was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, Gladys Rogers, Thelma Flynn, Nitia Johnson, Vera Williams and Buford Fillingim and a grandson, Allen Self. Survivors include two sons and daughters in law, Larry and Patricia G. Self, Eufaula and Tommy and Jean Self, Clayton; four grandchildren, Matthew Self, Cindy Harbuck, Jason Self and Rene Snell; and six great grandchildren, Morgan and Clayton Self, Maggie Dowie, Cameron Snell, Madison Dowie and Cayla Snell. JEREMY WAYNE TRAMMELL June 26, 1980 ~ April 5, 2013 Funeral services for Jeremy Wayne Trammell, age 32, of Eufaula, Alabama were held Monday, April 8, 2013 at Sardis Freewill Baptist Church in Eufaula, Alabama with Bro. Mr. Trammell passed away at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama on Friday, April 5, 2013. Born June 26, 1980 in Eufaula, Alabama, Jeremy was the son of James Edward Trammell and the late Ira Veneveline Brooks Trammell of Eufaula. He was a lifelong resident of Eufaula. Jeremy loved Alabama football. He enjoyed horses and cars. He deeply loved his friends and family and always enjoyed a crowd. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. She resided most of her adult life in Arlington, Georgia. She was a member of Arlington Church of God. She loved flowers, birds and poetry. She is preceded in death by her brother, Larry Carl Hatfield and sister, Olivia Parmer. MADELINE BAXLEY MARTIN  Funeral services for Mrs. Madeline Baxley Martin, 88, of Eufaula were held Monday, March 25, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in the Pleasant Hill Community. The Rev. Jesse James officiated and the eulogy was given by Maxine Simmons. Kent Funeral Home of Eufaula directed. Special music was provided by Jeff Golden and Ricky Baxley. Mrs. Martin died Friday, March 22, at her son's home in Phenix City after a brief illness. Born in Barbour County, Mrs. Martin was the daughter of the late Colie Jackson and Nolie Teal Baxley. She was an active member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church until shortly before her death. She loved and enjoyed her church home and family. Mrs. Martin worked many years at the infant sock mill and also at the shoe factory in Eufaula, but she worked most of her life at being the best mom, grandma and great-grandma in the world. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Johnie Martin, a daughter, Vivian Elaine Martin and three brothers. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, John H. Born April 14, 1936 in Columbus, Georgia, Mr. Rutherford was the son of the late Herman Ellis Rutherford and the late Ola Mae Hand Rutherford. He was a resident of Eufaula since 1982 prior to coming from Columbus, Georgia. Mr. Rutherford loved his grandchildren and playing cards. He is remembered by many as always having a great sense of humor and playing jokes on people. Rev. Wayne Williams officiated with Kent Funeral Home of Clayton directing. Memorialization was by cremation. Mrs. McCraney died suddenly, Sunday, March 17 at her home. Born May 2, 1959 in Greenville, Al. Mrs. McCraney was the daughter of the late Nelle Mae Yancy Jones and Herman Jones of Midland City. She had lived in Clayton since 1976 coming from Dothan. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Evergreen Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, cooking and had a green thumb. Survivors other than her father include her husband, Michael McCraney, Clayton, a son and daughter in law, Mickey and Diana McCraney, Ozark, two daughters and sons in law, Merrisa and Doug Ingram, Destin, Fl., and Morgan and Bren Finch, Pelham, Al.; her mother in law, Betty Jean Baxley, Clayton; a brother, Charles Jones, Dothan; five sisters, Joan Hopkins and Wanda Drinkwater, both of Ashford, Debbie Marrone, Valdosta, Ga., Janice Lewis, Rehobeth, and Kim Jones, Dothan; and seven grandchildren, Eason, Eisley, Ebner and Ellison Ingram and Mikey, Risdon and Dyson McCraney. WYVIAL SMITH MAYER October 30, 1921 ~ March 11, 2013  Graveside services for Mrs. Wyvial Smith Mayer, age 91, of Eufaula were held Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Shorterville Cemetery. Mrs. Mayer died Monday, March 11, at Crowne Health Care of Eufaula. Born October 30, 1921 in Henry County, Mrs. Mayer was the daughter of the late Espy Wyvial and Elner Hayes Smith. Mrs. Mayer had lived in Eufaula since 1964 coming from Colorado. She was a member of White Oak United Methodist Church. She was a nurse for over 60 years and her final years were spent nursing at Lakeview Community Hospital now Medical Center Barbour where she retired. She was a life time member of DAV Auxiliary, life member of the Garden Club of Alabama, she loved flowers and reading. Mrs. Mayer had a special friend, Dorothea “Dot” Futrell. Wyvial and Dot spent many years together, they sat together every Sunday on the same pew at church, they were in the garden club together, they enjoyed making crafts together and every morning they had breakfast together at Hardees. Actually they were more like sisters than best friends. Time took its toll and Wyvial spent her later years in Crowne Health Care in Eufaula and Dot spent her years at John Knox Manor in Montgomery. Separated by many miles they kept in touch by phone. God called Dot home Saturday, March 9, 2013 and He called Wyvial home Monday, March 11, 2013 and both families know that these special ladies are at home now enjoying each other’s company and reminiscing about days gone by, still best friends. Survivors include three nephews, Yancey Tipton “Tippy” Smith (Charlotte) and their daughter, Nancy (Rick) McNier; Espy Wyvial Smith (Edith) and their children Amanda (Willie Frank) Thornton, Elizabeth (Brandon) Shepard and Katie Smith; Robert Lee Smith and his wife Teresa and their children Ashley (Andrea) Smith and Melissa (David) Berglund; a niece, Mary Elner Teat and her husband David and their son Daniel (Jennifer) Teat; and 15 great great nieces and nephews.
ROBERT FULTON RICHARDS February 5, 1928 ~ March 10, 2013  Mr. Robert Fulton Richards of Clayton died Sunday, March 10, 2013 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was 85 years old. Born February 5, 1928, he was the son of the late Bob Foy and Eddie Lee Wise Richards. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Bowden Richards, Clayton; a sister, Bobbie Dean Richards Smith and a brother, Thomas Lee (Mary) Richards; a brother-in-law, Loyd (Margaret K.) Bowden; two sisters-in-law, Elaine B. (James) Hodgson and Betty B. (Mike) Middleton; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Richards served his country 20 years in the United States Army before returning to his home town of Clayton in 1968 where he met and married Mary Ann Bowden. They married November 14, 1970 and spent over 42 happy years together. Mr. Richards was a veteran joining the army near the end of WWII and served in Korea where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He also served 3 tours of duty in Vietnam. During his military career he served in many areas and received many awards. Following his military career, he worked for 16 ½ years with the State of Alabama Dept. of Mental Health at the Eufaula Adjustment Center as Food Services Supervisor where he worked with many of the patients. He was active in his church where he served as head usher for several years and as a trustee. He also enjoyed his hobbies of bird watching, raising many types of exotic birds and watching the deer and turkey. Funeral services for Mr. Richards were held on Wednesday, March 13, at 2 P.M. at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church. Bro Ron Jackson, pastor, officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery. DOROTHEA "DOT" RUTH FUTRELL January 28, 1922 ~ March 9, 2013  Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothea Ruth “Dot” Futrell, age 91, of Montgomery and formerly of Eufaula were held at 12 noon, Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Kent Funeral Home Chapel in Eufaula. Bro. Gerald Carroll officiated and burial followed in White Oak United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Futrell died Saturday, March 9, at John Knox Manor in Montgomery. Born January 28, 1922 in Kansas City, Kansas, Mrs. Futrell was the daughter of the late Posey Clyde and Velma Mae Cannon Bolton. Mrs. Futrell had lived in Eufaula from 1968 until approximately 2003 when she moved to Montgomery to be closer to her family. She was a member of White Oak UMC and was active in the garden club while she lived here. In Montgomery she was the queen of the Red Hat Ladies for two years. Mrs. Futrell, Dot, had a special friend, Wyvial Mayer in Eufaula. Dot and Wyvial spent many years together, they sat together every Sunday on the same pew at church, they were in the garden club together, they enjoyed making crafts together and every morning they had breakfast together at Hardees. They even drove the same type of car, make, model and color. Actually they were more like sisters than best friends. MILDRED ELIZABETH HALE July 25, 1929 ~ March 8, 2013  Mildred Elizabeth Hale, age 83, was called home Friday, March 8, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services for Mrs. Hale were held Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Clayton First Assembly of God Church in Clayton, Alabama with Rev. Bobby Hagler officiating. Burial followed at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Louisville, Alabama with Kent Funeral Home of Clayton directing. Born July 25, 1929 in Barbour County, Alabama, Ms. Hale was the daughter of the late Claude Parmer and the late Edna Hutto Parmer. She was a lifelong resident of Barbour County and retired from Van Heusen after her 25 years of employment. Ms. Hale adored her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She loved animals and enjoyed sewing. Ms. Hale believed greatly in the power of prayer and relied on the Lord during all of life's troubled encounters. She is preceded in death by her first husband of 24 years, Fred Hurst who passed away in 1968; her second husband of 7 years, Russell "Pop" Hale, who passed away in 2006; and a great grandchild, Steven Reese Glover. Survivors include son, James R. Hurst, Sr. (Dorothy) of Clayton, Alabama; daughter, Laura J. Thomas (Ralph) of Union Springs, Alabama; sister, Betty Sue Williamson of Clayton, Alabama; grandchildren, James R. DORIS MAXINE LAWSON June 23, 1924 ~ March 6, 2013  Doris Maxine Lawson, age 88, was called home Wednesday, March 6, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Memorial services for Mrs. Lawson will be held Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 3:00 P.M. at Eufaula Church of God in Eufaula, Alabama with Rev. Jerry Lawson and Rev. Kip Potter officiating. Born June 23, 1924 in Oshtemo, Indiana, Mrs. Lawson was the daughter of the late Homer Pierce and the late Mabel Vore Pierce. She was a resident of the Barbour County area for the past 9 years prior to coming from Bradenton, Florida. She was dearly loved by many and will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her husband, Iver John Lawson; brother, Lyle Pierce; and sisters, Helen Brouse, Lillian Gage and Betty McConnohie. Survivors include son, Gary Iver Lawson (Lois) of Eufaula; daughter, JoAnn Morris (Mike) of Eufaula; sister, Joyce Wheeler of Portage, Michigan; four grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. MILTON WAYNE SUTTON March 5, 1943 ~ March 2, 2013  Funeral services for Mr. Milton Wayne Sutton, age 69, of Eufaula will be held today, Monday, March 4, 2013, at 2 P.M. at Kent Funeral Home Chapel in Eufaula. Mr. Sutton died Saturday, March 2, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his family. Born March 5, 1943 in Eufaula, Mr. Sutton was the son of the late Milton James and Bessie Thelma Arnold Sutton. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Sutton enjoyed farming and truck driving and was a logger by trade. He loved his family and his Lord. Survivors include three sons, Slade Sutton, Shane (Sharon Harris) Sutton, and Shawn (Sheena) Sutton all of Eufaula; a brother, Jerry L. Sutton, Eufaula; two sisters, Shirley S. Faulk, Abbeville, and Judy S. RUFUS DOYLE SANDERS October 29, 1921 ~ March 2, 2013  Funeral services for Mr. Rufus Doyle Sanders, age 91, of Louisville, were held Sunday, March 3, 2013, at 2:30 P.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Louisville. Dr. Don Hatcher officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery with Kent Funeral Home of Clayton directing. The eulogy was given by Rev. Curtis Rich and special music was provided by Sonja Sanders and Marcey Zimmerman. Mr. Sanders died Saturday, March 2, at his home after an extended illness. Born October 29, 1921 in Louisville, Al., Mr. Sanders was one of twelve children born to the late Jim D. and Mary Ella Cutchen Sanders. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and always enjoyed farming and trying to improve the farm and agriculture. Mr. Sanders was the first to use chemicals on his crops in this area and was also the first to buy a “walking” peanut picker. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Lamar Sanders, Fred Sanders, Cora Mae Johnson, Cleona Abercrombie, Mavis Stevens, Essie Smith and Elise Baxter. Survivors include his wife of sixty-six years, Evelyn Luvenia Sanders, Louisville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Grevlyn Doyle and Sonja Sanders, Montgomery, Randy Wilson and Connie Sanders, Pike County; a brother, Willie Jim Sanders, Eufaula; three sisters, Ester S. Hickman, Eufaula, Sara S. Ammons, Dothan, and Ruby Jewel Methvin, Eufaula; five grandchildren, Tiffany S. Button, Bethany Wood, Marcey Zimmerman, Ashton Estes, Molly Estes; 10 great grandchildren. THOMAS RICKEY BENEFIELD July 8, 1955 ~ February 21, 2013  Funeral services for Mr. Thomas Rickey Benefield, age 57, of Clayton were held at 1 P.M., Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Kent Funeral Home Chapel in Clayton. Rev. Ronnie Benefield officiated with Kent Funeral Home directing. Memorialization was by cremation. Rickey died Thursday, Feb. 21 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan after a brief illness. Born July 8, 1955 in Barbour County, Rickey was the son of the late Lura and Emma Jean Hurst Benefield. He spent most of his life doing construction work and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and friends and especially his children and grandchildren. Mrs. Bell died Sunday, February 10, at Crowne Health Care of Eufaula after an extended illness. Born April 14, 1934 in Louisville, Mrs. Bell was the daughter of the late Malcolm Cody and Laura Lucille Tyler Beaty. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank D. Bell in 1997 and by her siblings, Joe Mack Beaty and Betty Jean Holmes. She lived most of her life in Barbour County and was a member of the Clayton Baptist Church. Mrs. Bell graduated from Louisville High School in 1952. She played basket ball, soft ball and was a cheerleader there. After high school she held several jobs, she was most remembered as working for the Barbour County Sheriffs Dept. as secretary. She served under Sheriff Robert Smith, Sheriff John Hamm and Sheriff Marshall Williams. She retired from the sheriff’s department in 1996 after 17 years of service. Before that she worked with the fertilizer plant in Clayton and later with Ed Ventress and Larry Seaborn when they individually owned the Egg Plant in Clayton. Mrs. Bell loved flower gardening, cooking for her family and she loved her pet dogs. Survivors include a son and daughter in law, James “Jimmy” and Cheryl Bell and a daughter and son in law, Cathy and Scott Curtis, all of Clayton; 5 grandchildren Paula (Thomas) Harbin, Dexter (Keely) Price, Pamela (William) Campbell, Roger Bell, and Kevin (Stacey) Bell; and 6 great grand-children, Shelby Faison, Paul Faison, Brayden Price, Madison Price, Dylan Campbell and Austin Campbell. After moving to Barbour County, he worked at Ace Hardware until they closed. He was employed with Wal Mart in Eufaula, AL. at the time of his passing. His passions were cooking and gardening. Erik died early Sunday morning, December 2, from injuries sustained in an auto accident. Born May 25, 1972 in Rome, New York, Erik Phillip was the son of Ronnie and Marguerite Jeffrey of Eufaula. He had lived in Barbour County since 2010 coming from Minnesota. He was of the Mormon faith. Erik had worked at Keystone Foods for approximately a year. He loved riding his bike and tattoos. Erik had a free spirit, he loved to sing, act and be comical in entertaining everyone. He was an awesome dad and loved his daughter Kennedy very much. Mr. Helms served on numerous boards throughout his life time at Texasville UMC. He also began his career as an auto mechanic in 1946 working for Hightower Chevrolet for 8 years, then Beaty Ford for 30 years and later he worked at American Buildings in Eufaula for 6 years and retired in 1990. Mr. Helms also found time to volunteer with the Clayton Fire and Rescue squad for over 50 years and was an EMT for several of those years. He was preceded in death by five siblings, Tommie Sumption, Norman Helms, Margaret Helms, Ruby Helms and Cody Helms and a grandson, Hunter Helms. Tommy was a member of Gideons International and attended Sardis Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed reading and studying the Bible and telling others about God. DEMPSEY BOYD October 18, 1927 ~ October 30, 2012 Funeral services for Mr. Dempsey Boyd, age 85, of Clayton, will be held today, Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 2 P.M. at the Clayton United Methodist Church in Clayton. Mr. Boyd will lie in state for one hour before services. Gaylon Benton, Chaplain for Boyd Brothers Transportion and Rev. Jabe Fincher will officiate and the eulogy will be given by Boyd Whigham. Burial will follow in the Clayton Cemetery with Kent Funeral Home of Clayton directing. Mr. Boyd died at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Oct. 30 after an extended illness. Born October 18, 1927 in Barbour County, Dempsey was the son of the late William Nicky and Elma Carroll Boyd. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Boyd. Dempsey served in the US Army. He was a member of the Clayton United Methodist Church where he held various offices. Dempsey, with brothers Cecil and Hilly, began driving trucks in 1946. He founded Boyd Bros. Transportation Inc. in 1956. His brothers left the company in 1965, but Dempsey remained and has been an integral part of the Company’s operations since his retirement. His vision helped Boyd Bros. become one of the largest flatbed carriers in the country. Dempsey served as Chairman of the Board of Alabama Trucking Association in 1983 and was the recipient of the H. Chester Webb Award in 1987. Dempsey’s long time interest in real estate and development and his generosity led to his contribution to the continued growth of Harvest Time Ministries in Clayton, Al. His additional interests were in real estate, development, farming, timber and hotels. Dempsey was a true entrepreneur, who, through hard work, risk taking, and old fashioned common sense, not only built a company that has changed America but also has helped provide a future for many people. Dempsey Boyd was a true Great American who will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Frances Boyd, Clayton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Ronny Cooper, and Ginger and Darren Hartzog all of Clayton; a brother, Hilly Boyd, Dothan; five grandchildren, Chris and Mandi Cooper, Amy and Mitch Holland, Frankie and Ryan Adams, Brooke and Porter Mason and Jason Tibbs; and seven great grandchildren, Cate and Boyd Cooper, Beatrice Holland, Ava and Dempsey Adams and Sawyer and Crawford Mason. She lived by the Golden Rule she learned as a child, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”, Flora was known for her generosity and spent her life showing kindness and respect to everyone she came into contact with. She had a beautiful smile and would always extend to you one of her favorite expressions of caring which were “You’re so sweet”, “Bless your heart” or “I love you”. These expressions warmed many hearts and brightened many days for those who received one of her blessings. She and her husband co-owned and operated Millers Grocery in Bakerhill for 28 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Oscar Earl Morgan in 1992, her son, Charles Edgar Morgan in 1990, her brother Edgar LaPearl Osteen Jr., and son-in-law, Bill Marley. Mrs. Morgan had lived in Eufaula since 1972 coming from Newton. She was a member of White Oak Methodist Church and enjoyed shopping and the Senior Circle. She and her husband owned and operated PieBoys Chicken in Clayton and later in Eufaula for 12 years. She was employed with Keystone Foods for 10 years prior to her illness. June enjoyed the beach and loved being with her children and grandchildren. She loved and "raised" many children that adopted her. Mrs. Byrd was a resident of Eufaula for 22 years and was a cake decorator for most of her time living here. Prior to moving to Alabama, Mrs. Byrd resided in Florida. She loved her husband and sons and grandsons very much. She enjoyed baking pastries, cake decorating and sewing. Survivors include her husband John R. Byrd; two sons, Daniel Lee Givens of Seale, Alabama and Nicholas Gene Givens of Oklahoma City, OK; three sister, Janet Pike of Dallas, TX, Debby Hawkins of Dallas, TX and Dawn Hagen; three grandsons, Nicholas Givens, Hunter Givens and Tanner Givens.
DEWEY LEE CARPENTER March 11, 1951 ~ June 30, 2012 Funeral services for Mr. Dewey Lee Carpenter, age 61, of Eufaula were held Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 2 P.M. from Grace Independent Baptist Church. Rev. Steve Montgomery officiated and burial followed in Sardis Church Cemetery with Kent Funeral Home of Eufaula directing. Mr. Carpenter died at his home after a sudden illness on Saturday, June 30. Born March 11, 1951 in Eufaula, Mr. Carpenter was the son of the late Dewey Preston and Agnes Marion Hartzog Carpenter. He was a charter member of Grace Independent Church. He had worked at Dixon Lumber company and was presently employed with McDonalds in Eufaula. Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Danny Ray Carpenter in 2005. Survivors include his sister and brother in law, Faye and Steven King, Eufaula; a sister in law, Carolyn Carpenter, Eufaula; 2 nieces, Cathy (Richard) Hodge and Miranda Hart; 2 nephews, Preston Ray (Louise McLain) Carpenter and Bobby Ray (Angela) Carpenter; several great nieces, an aunt and numerous cousins.

Mrs. Miller passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at her home in Clayton. Born October 14, 1917 in Clayton, Alabama, Mrs. Miller was the daughter of John Chapel Self and Clemmie Dell Zorn Self. Mrs. Miller lived in Panama City, Florida from 1954 until 1984 when they moved back to Texasville, Alabama. Survivors include three sons; Clarence Michael Miller of Clayton, AL, John Wesley Miller of South Caroline, Charles Randall Miller of Florida; one daughter, Carol Kay Peel of Florida; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Mrs. Miller is preceded in death by her late husband, Clarence Miller. Serving as pallbearers are Mrs. Millers grandsons; Brian Davis, Jason Davis, Pat Miller, Jeremy Miller, Ty Davis and Steve Miller. Born September 29, 1933 in Blakely, Georgia, Mr. Baker was the son of Jesse William Baker and Pearlie Jones Baker. He resided in Eufaula for 64 years and worked over 30 years at American Builders where he retired from his supervisor position. Mr. Baker loved Eufaula High School football and he was honored by Eufaula High School as their #1 fan. He loved the Atlanta Braves. But most of all, he loved his family. Survivors include his wife, Willie Baker of Eufaula; son, Gary (Jan) Baker of Richmond, Va; daughter, Deborah (Bobby) Sauls of Eufaula; sisters, Jaunita Childers of Lawrenceville, GA, Jewel Methvin of Eufaula, AL; and four grandchildren, Candace Sauls of Granite City, IL, Collin Ray of Ann Arbor, MI, Laurie Beth Baker of Richmond, VA, and Cameron Baker of Richmond, VA. Mr. Baker is preceded in death by sister, Estelle Smith and his brother, J.W. "Slim" Baker. GRACE SELLERS SMITH January 17, 1931 ~ June 14, 2012  Funeral services for Mrs. Grace Sellers Smith were held Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Eufaula. Graveside services followed at Pine Level Church Cemetery in Louisville, Alabama. Rev. Joseph Sollars and Bro. Steven Doss officiated with Kent Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Grace Smith passed away at Southeast Medical Center on June 14, 2012. Born January 17, 1931 in Blue Springs, Alabama, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late George Sellers and the late Elise Cox Sellers. She was a lifelong resident of Barbour County. She loved her grandchildren and her dog, Don-t. Mrs. Smith enjoyed being with her friends and family. Survivors include two daughters, Jean Anderson of Eufaula and Carolyn Jones of Abbeville; brother, Curtis Sellers of Clio; sisters, Betty Ruth Gamble of Abbeville, Sybil Hartzog of Abbeville, Patricia Duke of Montgomery, Patsy Trammell of Clayton, and Lila Faye Trammell of Clayton; grandchildren, Donnie Anderson of Eufaula, Joshua Anderson of Eufaula, John Curtis Anderson of Eufaula, Kale Anderson of Eufaula, Mariah Rose of Jacksonville, FL, Grady Smith of Eufaula, Tonya Freeman of Eufaula, J.J. RICKY LAMAR KENT September 14, 1954 ~ February 23, 2011  Funeral services for Ricky Lamar Kent, age 56, of Eufaula was held Sunday, February 27, 2011 at 2 P.M. from the First Baptist Church in Eufaula. Dr. Ken Bush officiated and burial followed in the Clayton Cemetery with Rev. Bill Brown officiating and Kent Funeral Home of Eufaula directing. The family received friends at Kent Funeral Home in Eufaula on Saturday, February 26, 2010 from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. Mr. Kent died suddenly Wednesday, Feb. 23 after an apparent heart attack resulted in an auto accident.Born September 14, 1954 in Panama City, Fl. Ricky was the son of the late Versie E. and Georgia Blanche Owens Kent. He had lived in Barbour County since 1979 coming from Montgomery, Al. Ricky was a member of First Baptist Church of Eufaula, he was a past president of the Clayton Rotary Club, past president of the Barbour County Heart Association, was a member of the Royal Whiteheart Masonic Lodge in Clayton and a 1972 graduate of Rutherford High School in Panama City, Fl. He was a Licensed Alabama Funeral Director and co-owner of Kent Funeral Home in Clayton and Eufaula, a co-owner of Heritage Funeral Home in Panama City, Fl., and co-owner of Kent Thornton Funeral Home (Covenant Funeral Services) in Dothan. Ricky was a shareholder of Kent Care, which owns funeral homes in Tennessee, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi. Ricky was a loving husband, father and friend. He enjoyed music and played for many parties, dances, weddings, receptions and special occasions. He enjoyed writing poetry and cooking. Survivors include his wife, Hope Kent, Eufaula; a son, Erick (Corrie Dukes) Kent, Auburn; three daughters, Michelle K. (Scott) Porter, Birmingham, Heather K. (Robert) McGowan, Eufaula and Dani Kent, Eufaula; a brother, Charles (Julie) Kent, Marianna, Fl.; three sisters, Jean (Joe) Stone, Millbrook, Ann (Tony) McCartha, Coosada, and Margie (Tommy) Lane, Panama City, Fl.; and 7 grandchildren, Drew McGowan, Anna Kathryn Martin, Samantha Martin, Noah Porter, Jacob Kent, Luke McGowan, and Caleb Kent. Pallbearers are Freddy Holland, Jimmy Pitts, Charles Kent Jr., Justin Kent, David Lane, Mark Presnell, Clark Presnell and Kenny Stiles.
